POSTER COLLECTION - THE POSTER COLLECTIVE

I was a 'member' of the Poster Collective (later renamed The Poster Film Collective) from 1976 to 1979. I was invited to join due to my political work, prints and actions, at the Central School of Art and Design. Worked very hard screen printing many posters; sitting and listening to learned political discourse from Jonathan Miles. Carried out a lot of research and some valuable 'photo-journalism' on the Grunwick Strike. Met and worked with a couple of really committed political artists. At the same time met some arrogant bullies (among them Dave Fox). Some illuminating things coupled with some outstanding pompous bullshit. Did a lot of 'dirty work' for the collective. Juan Muñoz and I printed a number of our posters there.

All these posters were given to me for a research project. This resulted in one published paper, 'The Poster and the Productive Offensive', Afras Review, 1977. Basically this was a somewhat blind and naive regurgitation of Jonathan Miles' Maoist ideas. Not worth revisiting. (Although I will check again.)

A selection of the posters was exhibited as part of a number of presentations at Art, Architecture and Design departments at Melbourne University, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) and Preston Institute of Technology.

The originals were placed in the library of Brunel University, Englefield Campus and were available for further research.
