CASE HISTORY -'PENNEY TOSSER''Coin Tosser' is being developed (javascript code being rewritten). The game is based upon an amazing contradiction in the mathematical probability relating to the tossing of a coin (a 'penney') -'heads' or 'tails' - an obvious probability of 0.5. So, given the situation in tossing a coin three times in succession you have a one chance in eight of hitting any one of the eight possible sequences, namely: H-H-H, T-T-T, H-H-T, T-T-H, H-T-T, T-H-H, H-T-H, T-H-T.Here is the challenge: whatever sequence of three coins you choose, I will choose an alternative sequence of three. Then in a random series of tosses my sequence will nearly always come up before your choosen sequence. For example if you choose H-H-T and I choose T-H-H, and then the coin fell successively T H T H H, T H H, my choice would win. Here is but the very first part - practice 'tossing the coin': |
